New Approaches in the Information Systems Audit Focused on Increasing the Performance of IT Investments

Abstract:
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is and will continue to represent a major driving factor in the modernization of the economy and society. The paper is based on an exhaustive documentation regarding the new approaches in the IT audit field, with focus on comparative analysis studies, connected to the most significant achievements in this area and has been elaborated using the international standards and best practices. In order to emphasize the opportunities of the utilization of the modern audit methods and techniques for information systems, various studies and researches have been conducted with regards to: the reference architectures, the specific methods and techniques and the methodological and process based frameworks for audit. The aim of this paper is to highlight the features that generate significant changes to the audit missions in the context of the spectacular expansion in terms of IT infrastructure investments.\r\nThe authors bring their contribution by evaluating various web sites of the most relevant Romanian public institutions in order to establish the extent of investments in IT infrastructure and IT systems/services and to globally assess the impact of the IT investments development. This research was done by analyzing the results and approaches achieved both domestically and internationally by institutions with a big tradition in the external audit field.
