Abstract:
In this article, the author presents a brief history of accounting based on a materialistic concept designed to explain in a „reasonable” manner its development in relation to economic and social phenomena. Based on the theoretical foundations of this approach, the author browse the events that marked the birth and evolution of the accounting, starting with the keeping of the records using „pebbles” in Sumerian times, through moments like starting using the money, the birth of capitalism, taxation appearance, appearance of providential state, domination of financial markets, until contemporary issues of environmental crisis. In the context of economic and social changes, the author predicts, therefore, new developments in accounting practices that will appeal to new regulatory and administration mechanisms.
