Insights of Information Techology Challenges in Internal Audit

Abstract:
IT based business models and processes are omnipresent in today companies’ activities. As a result, internal audit has to be prepared to face this new IT based business models and control environment. In this new context, the traditional internal audit approach is not effective anymore. In this respect, internal audit faces the IT challenge and imbeds IT tools and techniques in its own processes aiming at improving its performance. This paper emphasizes the need and means to implement the Technology Maturity Model recommended by The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) aiming at promote IT based activities in the internal audit work. The research conclusions aim at helping internal auditors in their information technology strategy development and implementation and improving their strategic thinking and action.
